Luftseilbahn Andermatt-Gemsstock

Description

Andermatt’s local mountain, the Gemsstock, is easily reached from Andermatt station on foot or by village bus in the winter. Parking spaces are available at the valley station.

Gurschenalp and Gemsstock attract visitors with diverse offerings in the summer. Those who enjoy the finer things in life will be in their element with sunrise rides and energy-boosting Alpine farmer’s breakfasts. Sports enthusiasts will add a challenging hike to this programme. Families will also find exciting activities on the Gemsstock: a playground is just the right thing for younger family members. Adventure fans will be delighted by a Geocaching treasure hunt.

In the winter, the Gemsstock is the go-to mountain for steep descents and bold leaps and has been an insider tip among freeriders for years. From the peak right down into the valley, winter athletes conquer a valley descent that constitutes 1500 metres’ cumulative elevation gain. For those in the know, the “Bernhard-Russi-Run” offers a highlight; the descent is named after the Swiss Olympics winner and, at 960 metres difference in altitude across a length of 4.3 kilometres, is a challenge for skiers. Thanks to the favourable location, the snow often stays on the ground into the spring and enables descents even when flowers are already blooming in the midlands.
